Hi, my name's Jeffrey Beamer and I've worked within the construction industry all of my life being self employed for more than half of it.
Having gone on a general building course immediately after school I opted for stone masonry as the backbone to my employment and trained with Lancastrian stonemasons, learning how to work sandstone. My love of old buildings brought me in from the cold as I broadened my interest and began to add other trades to my résumé.
Having worked for Lancaster City Council on various smaller restoration contracts, I was given the trust and opportunity from both Mr John Campbell (contracts officer) and Mr Jeremy Roberts (Conservation officer) to rebuild in part the stone Portico of Lancaster City Museum, formerly the Town Hall in Market Square, a grade 2 listed building dating from the 1780's, a privilege indeed!
That particular contract gave me credibility, as Mr Roberts recommended my services to other organizations keen to restore dilapidated historic sites. My next contract was to make good stonework and pressure grout walls to The Old Boathouse on Lancaster Canal built in 1833. This particular contract was awarded by British Waterways and led to further works across the North-West.
